It is hard living with depression.. or living after depression.
Everyday is a struggle, a battle, in the overall war that is going on inside your head and your body. It is important to take one day at a time to make it easier to cope with it all.
“Everybody has their ups and downs. Better and worse days. Everyone has days when they feel sad or blue… But what I most notice after having dealt with depression is that somehow these feelings are somewhat stronger, or then again I give them more importance as I am more aware of they can possibly mean. I live in a constant fear of returning to that state… Of going back and feeling overwhelmed about everything. I know it is something I need to work on. And it is something I am working on… But these things take their time. And they don’t run fast as we would like them too.” Anonymous
These are the thoughts of a person who has gone through depression. You may have overcome the worst part, the depressive episode, and you may be out of the medication, and able to lead a normal life, but the fear is always there… Creeping behind you, waiting to get you at your weakest point.
People with depression have to be courageous everyday. They need to fight everyday to be able to face the world and its challenges.
A person with depression may not look any different from you, as their scars are not visible to the naked eye. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t there… And it doesn’t mean they do not hurt as much as breaking a bone.
As a recovering person from this illness, you need to take one day at a time. Be proud of little steps you take, and little objectives you accomplish. Don’t expect to be able to reach the main goal all in one day, as that is not realistic. But celebrate every little success that takes you closer to reaching it.
This is not a sprint, but a marathon. Trust your journey… And try the make the best out of every moment of everyday.
